Whoa!!Katy Perry is about to do something that no other female singer has done before. Michael Jackson is the only artist who has ever had five No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits from one single album. That could all change soon if Katy Perry’s latest single Last Friday Night (T. G. I. F. ) hits the number one spot (and, come on, you know it will). She will then have five number one hits from her Teenage Dream album – a first for any female in the chart’s 52-year history. That’s a HUGE accomplishment! We’re rooting for you, Katy! We know Last Friday Night (T. G. I. F. ) will hit number one. You are unstoppable![Image via WENN. ]

  1. Re: Blunt – Music officially died when Mario (Perez) started signing “singers”

  2. You’re a taint-licking kiss ass, Mario.

  3. Music industry is Walmart today. Everything is cheap trash that anybody can consume, throw away and go back to buy more cause is that much recycleable. The only thing that matters is the money it leaves at the end of the day, and as long theres an idiot with bad taste out there, they wont change the recipe. Katy has no talent whatsoever, she is practicaly taking the place of someone with real talent but well.

  4. OMFG what an insult to michale who has RAw talent. Not big boobs and corny songs. This is proof music is dead in 2011

  5. SMH! first Elvis gets beaten by GLEE then this!! what’s next Justin Bieber is gunna dethrone Madonna from her Queen of Pop title -___- aaahhhh makes me go CRAZZY

  6. she does not deserve her fame! this girl is average looking with annoying personality and no voice, btw she doesn’t even write her songs. I wish her songs were given to someone who is talented and willing to work for it. Can someone please make her go away like forever?

  7. way to go katy!! one thing haters can’t knock her down for is that she’s a hardworking person. I love her work ethic and her feedback shows. so amazing how well Teenage Dream album era is doing I hope she dives into a much needed break after it’s run and take a breather before she releases a new album. Wow this milestone is nothing but awesome.

  8. embarrassing. what is with people’s taste in music these days.

  9. … P!nk was desperate for a turnaround after her anti-pop LP, Try This, was a commercial failure in the States, so she turned to Max Martin for every release since that and has seen a growth of success. Katy Perry had a lot of trouble getting a stable music career before One of the Boys came to fruition, and she seems to have followed P!nk’s lead. The difference is that P!nk is a far less manufactured star, and that her lyrical contributions are far more interesting. Her desperation is apparent to all but those who aren’t yet wise enough to recognize it. Superstars like Lady Gaga, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, and Beyonce could easily work with Max Martin or Dr. Luke and land several #1 singles from an album if they so desired. Thankfully, love them or hate them, they are bold enough to avoid being empty vessels for their record labels to use to make millions.

  10. Unfortunately, this is actually nothing but bad news. Katy Perry should never be equated with Michael Jackson in any way. While he was no Christina Aguilera or Beyonce as far as vocal ability is concerned, he was a far better singer than Katy Perry. Her choked singing “from the throat” (in conjunction with improper breathing) is perfect for “tweens” and teens to listen to so that they can sing along with her and feel like they are on the same level as a “superstar.” (Let’s be sure to never underplay the role of the Narcissism Epidemic in the success of pop culture phenomenons.) Furthermore (and most importantly), she has her team of surefire hit producers by her side to churn out the hit singles for her. If Max Martin wrote a song for one of the idiot Real Housewives series women, it would most likely be a Top 10 single. People need to stop giving celebrity musicians credit for success that is largely the result of their producers (and co-writers, as the case may be). As Stephen Thomas Erlewine said in his review of her album for allmusic.com, “It’s ironic that her best song finds her lurking behind the scenes, because Perry’s greatest talent is to be a willing cog in the pop machine.” We have a problem in this country where we are confusing “what is popular” with “what is important,” and Katy’s music is sugar: addictive and tasty, but definitely malnourishing….
