“Harry Potter” Finale Dominates with $92. 1 Million Opening
Off to a monumental start, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” raced to a staggering lead at the box office over the weekend of July 15-17, 2011. The Daniel Radcliffe/Emma Watson starring franchise finale delivered an estimated $92. 1 million opening day with forecasts of an opening weekend take of $180 million. After two weeks in the top spot, Shia LaBeouf and Rosie Huntington Whiteley’s action flick “Transfromers: Dark Of the Moon” was bumped into second with an approximate third weekend total of $20 million. Rounding out the top five at the box office were Jennifer Aniston’s comedy “Horrible Bosses” ($15 million), followed by “Zookeeper” ($11 million) and “Winnie the Pooh” ($7. 8 million).
