Calling it quits after nearly four years of marriage, Daniel Baldwin filed for divorce from wife Joanne Smith earlier today (July 13). The move comes just a day after the 50-year old actor requested a restraining order against the ex-fashion model turned chef, claiming that he was in fear for the safety of himself and their two daughters. Daniel opened up about the factors that led up to his recent legal action, telling TMZ, “Due to recent events in our home and for the safety of my children and myself, I have made this decision. I have had my share of problems with drugs and alcohol many years ago and know first hand how difficult a position she is in. “Further urging Baldwin to walk away from the relationship was the repeated threats on his life, as he explained in a declaration obtained by TMZ, revealing that Smith once came into the couple’s bedroom after watching a documentary on women who kill their husband, saying, “Now I know how to do it, I understand why they did it. You have been warned. ” The “Celebrity Rehab” participant, who has won temporary custody of their kids, also noted the fear his wife’s outbursts would leave within their children, as he said they would often ask “is mommy going to kill us?”
