Google PR Update

Ok so this is not really a tech site and many of the readers here don’t speak or understand english all that well but my native tongue is english so I wanted to write a small story on what I think is going on with Google and there newest PR Update.

First for those that don’t know PR means Page Rank and it was considered by google in the past to show surfers and webmasters what google thinks of a certain page/website the higher the PR the more trustworthy or relevant the site is. for example they rank most google sites and services a PR 9 and PR 10 , 10 being the highest PR rank that any site can receive.

Now that you know what PR is. I will try to explain to you for those that don’t know why this was important, you see as a webmaster or a blogger or what ever you want to call yourself if you own or run a site your goal is to get traffic to the site . More traffic means more sales/members/influence ect… depending on what your site is all about.  so if google the largest search engine in the world ranks certain sites high and valuable and trustworthy a link from these higher ranking PR sites becomes something you as the site owner/webmaster would like to get, So many webmasters started buying links from sites with higher PR and well this worked for a long time and helped many sites gain ground for there keywords in the SERPS this has caused a problem for google you see by following this method of marketing if I have the money to buy the right links and enough of them I can pretty much manipulate where my page/site ranks in the search engines. and that means that maybe even though my site/page should not be up at the top and is not one of the most relevant pages or sites for the search term your looking for I am still able to take the top spots and this makes search’s less relevant and that hurts google.

So what does this mean , it means that what google started out with as a simple / fun bar at the top of the google toolbar has created a form for spammers link sellers and buyers to boom into a big business which was great for those that had the pr and were selling and those that had the money to buy links and wanted the PR boost but again this was and is not so good for the search engines. since this can make sites that are irrelevant rank higher then those that are relevant.

Google representative’s have been warning webmasters now for a while that buying and selling links is not good and that they would crack down on the people who do this.  The truth is they have done a poor job at finding these sites and people who are buying and selling links. and so now we come to the point of this story.

The New Google PR Update what are the implicationswell this site has seen some pages drop in pr and many pages rise and I have 100’s of other sites and from what I have seen and tested on my own I see that in this PR update.  PR has literally become almost worthless I have seen the best sites drop in PR and junk sites rise in Page Rank. so page rank is less of a factor then before and I have also noticed that PR has had no effect on the SERPS or Search Engine Rankings for those that don’t know what Serps are.  I think google is trying to detour the buying of selling of links,  by making PR basically useless.  it will not work but it will at the very least make people who were and are buying links because of PR stop and think.

I personally do not care much about my sites PR I am more interested in the Traffic the site gets especially from the Search Engines so my suggestion is that PR is pretty much worthless anymore unless you use it right that is.  instead of buying links from just any old site because there PR ranks higher then yours. if you must buy links buy them from sites that are similar to your own make sure that your link is displayed on sites that are in the same niche or similar niche as your own because in the long run many sites will most likely be penalized for mass link buying in general sites but it would be almost impossible to penalize a site for linking in or out to a site that is either in the same niche group or is considered to have some sort of similarities to their own and in some way may complement each other because if you think about it. there is no way they would create an algorithm that would penalize these types of sites because if they did then it would hurt google since most sites linked this way are the actual sites that deserve top ranking in there category for there keywords.

So what have we learned PR is not so important anymore and if you must buy and sell links only buy or sell to sites with similar content or that complement your own site(s)
